The descent from Stob Coire Sgreamhach down through the 'Lost Valley' is quite strange with the river disappearing underground only to appear again further on. Coire Gabhail (Corrie of the Bounty, or The Hollow of Capture) is a high level glen in the Bidean nam Bian mountain massif to the south of Glen Coe, Highland, Scotland. Due to the popularity of these mountains and of the Lost Valley which forms part of the route, we knew an early start was required to get a parking space. From here we attempted to follow the Cicerone Guide book to Scrambles in Lochaber to find the start of the route. We took a short break here just to enjoy the solitude of this valley. Once across the narrow footbridge, the path climbing up through the ravine has a number of sections where care is required, especially in the wet. One section of route has to be retraced to take in the 2nd Munro. This is a real gem… Trek up through the picturesque Lost Valley to the summit of Bidean nam Bian (1,150 m) and take in the breath taking views of the Three Sisters, Aonach Eagach ridge and Loch Leven. Bidean nam Bian sits opposite us, down and up a broken ridgeline. As the summit is reached, the large boulders give way to a rock strewn dome, atop which sits the summit cairn. It stands tall at an impressive 1150m elevation and is a favourite with beginner and advanced hill walkers. Beautiful and fairly strenuous hike from Glen Coe into the area of the Three Sisters, onto the highest peak in Argyll at around 1150 m, and down into the scenic Lost Valley. The drop-off from Bealach Dearg into the Lost Valley is quite renowned for its awkward little scramble, the path down having been severely eroded by the passage of years of boot shod walkers and climbers, and also the toll that winter ice and snow takes on such routes.
